Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a prescription or Doctor's note for a physiotherapy assessment or treatment?
Some insurance companies do require a doctor’s note for coverage, but physiotherapy is a direct care service so you do not need a doctor’s referral to see us.
Will Insurance companies require a doctor's note?
This is a question you will have to ask your particular insurance company. Most do not require a doctor’s referral, but if you’re not sure it’s always a good idea to call them with your plan information and double check.
What happens on my first visit?
On your first physiotherapy treatment day, expect to be in the clinic for at least 1 hour. You will likely be given a variety of treatments such as hot packs, electrical stimulation, or ice, depending on your specific diagnosis. Your therapist will typically guide you through some specific exercises that should be done in the clinic as well as at home.
It is normal to feel some symptom aggravation after the first treatment as part of the assessment process as well as starting new exercises. Don’t let this scare you off. Give your therapist constant feedback on how you are responding to the treatments.
